Remember To Turn On The Light!

I recently heard a story about a Rabbi and his students. It goes like this…

The students came to their teacher with a quandary: What can be done about all the evil in the world. “There is so much darkness – what can we do to dispel it?” The wise Rabbi ruminated over the problem in silence for a moment. He then asked each of them to fetch a broom. He told them that his cellar was very dark and that they should go down to the cellar and sweep away the darkness. The students were confused, but they carried their brooms to the cellar. They soon returned and informed the Rabbi of their failure to clean out the darkness. The Rabbi then asked each of them to grab a stick and beat the darkness until it went away. So the students went away again. After a while they returned with abject faces, having failed once again to get rid of the darkness. The Rabbi then told them to go back to the cellar and shout at the darkness. The students tried this and returned even more confused and frustrated. Finally, the Rabbi gave each of them a candle and asked them one last time to return to the dark cellar. And so, they went down to the pitch-black cellar and one by one they set their candles alight until the darkness disappeared.

You can’t sweep it away. You can’t beat it away. You can’t shout it away.

I invite you to find a way to bring light to your world today.

Vibrant Living Tip

There are many ways to bring light to the darkness. Here are just a few that I use.

  1. Laughter. Laughter is always a great way to “lighten up.” Tell a joke. Watch a funny movie. I can remember a time when my mother was feeling really down. She was having complications from her surgery. I found a way to make her laugh. It turned the whole day around for her. Make someone laugh or find a way to laugh.
  2. Gratitude . Gratitude is at the vibration that is harmonious with abundance. Feeling abundant create a lightness. A joy. An inner glow that is contagious. Find at least one thing to feel grateful for. Even if it’s just that you got out of bed. Really feel the gratitude.
  3. Service. Find a way to be of service to others. Give of your time, talents, or treasures. You will find not only does the other person feel better, you will too.

You might have your own ways to bring light to the world. Share them in the comments.
