Happy Father’s Day!

This Sunday is Father’s Day here in the US.

111+ countries celebrate Father’s Day.

My father has been gone a long time. 30 years, in fact.

I still think of him and some of the things he taught me.

He taught me to sail. This one is probably the most memorable and long lasting. I love sailing. Being on the water. The sound of the waves. The feel of the boat as I steer.

I have many fond sailing memories of my father. Learning to sail. Learning what jibe meant and experiencing it for the first time. Wednesday night races. Weekend regattas. Taking to boat out for the first time on my own.

My favorite was when I bought a sailboat of my own. The first thing he said was: “Damn, everything I always wanted…”

He was proud that I accomplished something he hadn’t.
