Do What Gives You Joy!

I invite you to close your eyes.

Think of something that brings you great joy.

How does that feel?

Are you smiling?

Take a kind glance at your typical day.

How many times during the day do you feel that way?

Are there times in your typical day that do not bring you joy?

I recently had the opportunity to reflect on this.

It’s spring time. Time to open the pool.

The pool was my spouse’s joy. My spouse is no longer with us. It’s been 6 years.

I’ve been opening and closing the pool for the last 6 years with mixed joy. Each year a little less.

My daughter moved. The nieces and nephews no longer visit. It sits with no one to enjoy it most of the time.

Last year I declared – It’s my pool! I swam more that I ever did before. Still, mixed joy.

This year. No joy. I made the decision to release the pool to someone who will find joy in it.

I visualize my yard without the pool. Ah, joy!

What do you do when something is no longer joyful?

Vibrant Living Tip

Joy is an indication that something is part of your passion. It supports your purpose. It never feels like work. It feels like play.

Make a list of things you do regularly. Give each a joy rating.

When you discover something that no longer brings you joy, there are 3 options. Keep Doing. Delegate. Eliminate.

Decide which of the 3 options you will do. Put a realistic a date next to delegate and eliminate. Complete the task by the date you select.

If your decision is keep doing, I invite you to put an end date on it too. Actively investigate ways to delegate or eliminate it. Keep your promise of an end date.
