Are You Willing to Disconnect to Really Connect?
I receive emails from different people everyday. People who inspire me. Who I learn something from.
Today’s Darren Daily was called – “What Everybody Ought to Know About Technology.” Darren Hardy talks about going to a gorgeous art deco theater and to see a ballet. He is in the balcony so he can experience the ballet better. What he sees is all the lit up cell phones down below. Even during the performance.
He went on to say that we used to give Time to people to show we cared. With all the electronics, time with people isn’t the same. You can’t be in two places at once. When you switch your attention to a device, you leave your surrounds. Being always connected, keeps us at an emotional distance with those around us.
What we need now is Attention.
We have a rule in our house – no texting during meals. It’s a time to connect and share. Giving our attention to each other. I was out to dinner with my niece and said – no texting during dinner. She gave me this deer in the headlights look and put her phone in her lap. We had a much better conversation.
I invite you to consider disconnecting…
Vibrant Living Tip
Notice how present you are to the people around you as you hear that – “You’ve got <whatever>” notification.
Look at your love and relationship part of your vision. Is this electronic addiction moving you closer to your dream?
If not, you know what to do. Disconnect to really connect.
Start small, if you need to. Even a meal can be a magical connection experience.
If you have children, I invite you to put your electronics away until they go to bed. Pay attention to them. That’s really all they want.
You’ll be amazed at the things you will experience as a result.
Vibrant Living Take Away
Being constantly connected creates disconnection, not connection. Find new and fun ways to pay attention and return to that quality time of days gone by.
Until next time...
