If you only see someone at his or her moment of phase change or moment of striking gold or moment of being discovered or moment of overnight success you’ll miss all that came before it. The 17 years and 114 days.
You’ll miss the persistence it took to get to that magical moment.
Napoleon Hill’s book called “Think and Grow Rich” has a whole chapter titled Persistence.
In it he says: “The majority of people are ready to throw their aims and purpose overboard, and give up at the first sign of opposition or misfortune.”
There is a big difference between 17 some odd years and giving up at the first sign of opposition.
I invite you to take a kind glance in the mirror.
Where are you on that scale?
The good thing is the habit of persistence can be cultivated.
Napoleon Hill says there are four simple steps which lead to the habit of persistence. “They call for no great amount of intelligence, no particular amount of education, and but little time or effort.”
He goes on to say – “These four steps are essential for success in all walks of life.”
Here are the four steps. I have rearranged them slightly to fit with my model – The Vibrant Living Formula.
1) A definite purpose backed by a burning desire for its fulfillment.
This is your VISION. Based on what would you love. In the four main areas of you life. Health. Relationships. Career or Creative Expression. Time and Money Freedom. A purpose with clarity. Details. Feelings.
2) A mind closed tightly against all negative and discouraging influences, including negative suggestions of relatives, friends and acquaintances.
This is where we reframe our thought HABITS. Our paradigms. We want to reframe any that do not support our vision. So we can move forward vibrantly.
3) A definite plan, expressed in continuous action.
ACTION is where the magic happens. Become that person in your vision. You take a step and the next one appears.
4) A friendly alliance with one or more persons who will encourage one to follow through with both plan and purpose.
You need a COACH. A mentor. Partners in believing. Mastermind partners. Someone who believes in you when you have a hard time believing in yourself. Some one who doesn’t by into your circumstances.
