Choose and Choose Well

I receive emails everyday with motivational quotes/stories.

Today, I received 2 that talked about choice.

This reminded me of the lyrics from the Rush song “Freewill.”

At the time I first heard this song, it was a new concept to me. Choosing not to decide is a decision? Is a choice?

I made a decision this year about something that last year, I decided not to decide about.

I’ve had a pool in my yard since we bought the house in 2004. Over the last few years, it hasn’t been used much. My daughter moved. My nieces and nephews live next to someone with a pool.

Last year, I kept waffling between sell and keep. I even made an effort to swim more.

This year, I made a decision to sell. I told friends. I posted on FB. Not much action.

Next decision – expand the reach. I posted on Craig’s List and FB Marketplace. Within a few days, I had 3 very interested people. One person even offered $1500 more than asking.

Today, the pool is being taken down.

What a difference a decision makes…

I invite you to look at something that you have not made a decision about.

Now that you have something in mind, learn 3 tools to help make that decision.

Vibrant Living Tip

The first tool is the basis of my coaching. Create a vision of the life you would LOVE living. Once you have that vision, it is much easier to say Yes or No. Ask – does this move me in the direction of my vision.

The second tool is a Mentor. Ask a trusted advisor. Someone who has done what you are looking to do. Or someone who you admire. Someone who has the success you would love. This is also where I help clients, as a mentor.

The third tool is what Ben Franklin used to make difficult decisions. It is sometimes called the Franklin T method. Make a big T on a piece of paper. At the top write the question you would like answered. Along one side, write all the Pros. Along the other, all the Cons. See which side is longer. See what new ideas come to you. Tools, like this, are another way I help my clients make decisions that help them become successful.

Vibrant Living Take Away

Making decisions can be easy or hard, depending on how you look at it. The important thing is to choose.

Until next time...

Dream Bravely.
Act Boldly.
Live Vibrantly!
